Which Airport Should You Fly Into?
RSW — Southwest Florida International (Best Choice)
In Fort Myers, about 30–40 minutes from Cape Coral (roughly 22–28 miles). It's the region's main airport with nonstop flights from cities across the US and Canada, plus every major rental-car brand on site. For 95% of guests, RSW is the answer.
PGD — Punta Gorda (Budget Alternative)
A small airport about 40–50 minutes north, served mainly by Allegiant with low-cost routes to smaller cities. Fewer flights, but sometimes a cheaper fare if the timing works.
Farther Options
Tampa (TPA) is about 2–2.5 hours north and Miami (MIA) roughly 2.5–3 hours east — worth it only if the fare difference is big or you want a bigger hub.

There's no rail transit and limited buses. The beaches, restaurants and attractions are all a drive apart, so a rental car is essentially required. Reserve it with your flight, especially in the busy winter and spring seasons.
Rideshare & Taxis
Uber and Lyft operate at RSW and around town. A one-way from the airport to Cape Coral typically runs in the range of a mid-priced ride — fine for getting in, but you'll still want a car for the week.
The Bridge Tolls Nobody Warns You About
Crossing Into the Cape
Cape Coral is a peninsula, so from the Fort Myers/RSW side you'll cross the Caloosahatchee on the Midpoint Memorial or Cape Coral Bridge — both tolled. There's no toll booth to stop at; it's cashless, billed via SunPass/E-ZPass transponder or Toll-By-Plate (your rental company charges it back with a small fee).
Avoiding Tolls
Coming from the north (Punta Gorda), you can reach parts of Cape Coral via Del Prado/Pine Island Road and skip the bridges. Your GPS will route you automatically; choose "avoid tolls" if you prefer.
