We're parents who run vacation rentals in Cape Coral. We've put dozens of families through here every month and we know exactly what works with kids and what doesn't. Here's the no-nonsense family guide.
Top Kid-Friendly Activities
Sun Splash Family Waterpark
Slides, lazy river, splash pads. Open seasonally - check hours. Plan a full day. Bring your own snacks; concessions are pricey.
Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve
Free, easy boardwalk through mangroves, kayak rentals on weekends. Good for kids 5+ who can walk a mile.
Mike Greenwell's Bat-A-Ball and Family Fun Park
Mini golf, batting cages, go-karts, arcade. Old-school, slightly worn, totally fine for kids.
HeadPinz Family Entertainment Center
Bowling, laser tag, arcade. Great rainy-day backup. Ages 3 and up.
Imaginarium Science Center (Fort Myers)
20 minutes away, hands-on exhibits, perfect for ages 3-10. Don't skip the wave tank.
Best Beaches with Kids
Cape Coral Yacht Club Beach
In Cape Coral itself - small swimming beach with a fishing pier and playground. Free parking, calm water, perfect for toddlers.
Bonita Beach Park
30 min south, calm Gulf water, big shaded playground, lifeguards in season. Kids' favorite.
Lighthouse Beach (Sanibel)
Easy parking, shallow entry, fishing pier. Good for older kids who want to look for shells.
Restaurants Kids Actually Like
Iguana Mia
Tex-mex, kids menu, crayons on the table. Loud enough that nobody cares if your toddler screams.
Boathouse Tiki Bar
Tiki = kid-friendly somehow. Open air, watch boats, simple menu.
Love Boat Ice Cream
Best after-dinner stop in town. Walk-up window, picnic tables outside.
Lelulo's Pizzeria
Cheap, fast, real pizza. The kids will eat it. So will you.
Rainy Day Plans (It Happens)
Sun Harvest Citrus
Free citrus tasting, train ride for kids ($5), gift shop. 30 min and an ice cream cone later, the rain has passed.
Edison and Ford Winter Estates
Indoor museum, outdoor gardens, fits older kids 6+. Rainy day in air conditioning.
Movie Theater - Marquee Cinemas
Modern theater on Pine Island Rd. Reclining seats. Sometimes you just need 2 hours of dark and popcorn.
What to Pack
Reef-safe sunscreen
Florida sun is no joke. Reapply every 2 hours.
Water shoes
Cape Coral canals and some beaches have shells/rocks. Saves a meltdown.
Pool toys
If your rental has a pool (ours all do), bring goggles and a small inflatable. Toddlers will live in it.
Bug spray
Mosquitos are real, especially May through October.
